Baring Asset Management, a global investment management firm, has hired James Ross to the newly created role of director of investment process, commencing from September 2.
Ross joins from Alliance Bernstein’s where he was head of portfolio managers, covering global growth equities, a role held since 2009.
Prior to that, he was the firm’s European head of alternative investments and head of European value equities.
Ross will be based in London and report to Baring AM CIO Marino Valensise.
In his new role Ross will be responsible for developing, implementing and reviewing the investment process of Barings’ recently launched funds: the Baring Frontier Markets and Baring Emerging Market Corporate Debt funds, while also overseeing the investment process for the firm’s existing products.
The Baring Frontier Markets Fund, launched in April this year, has exposure to Africa and Mena with key holdings including Nigeria’s Guaranty Trust Bank, First Gulf Bank in the UAE and Qatar National Bank.
“Alongside overseeing the investment process for existing products, this role has been created to develop, implement and regularly review the investment processes for the suite of new products,” said Valensise.
“We are delighted that James is joining us and his vast previous experience across both the buy-side and the sell-side makes him very well-placed to carry out this role successfully,” he added.
